PASCO, WA. - NBC Right Now was on the scene of an active police chase Monday evening in Pasco. Kennewick Police say a car chase began on their side of the Columbia River after a driver did not yield. The man crossed the Blue Bridge and made it al the way to Sylvester Street in Pasco. It was between 26th and 28th Avenues that he was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit a white Suburban. The driver then skidded through grass and gravel on a popped tire before running from officers on foot. Officers say the K9 unit dispatched to search the area can smell out the suspect's fear.

"Our adrenaline gets pumping and the skin cells are constantly flaking off. That leaves a very distinct scent for the dogs so if we can point the dog to the exact last known location, the dog can follow the scent from there," explained Sgt. Ken Lattin of the Kennewick Police Department.

Police say when the man ran away he jumped a nearby fence and took off down 26th Avenue.
