Yakima Co. Deputies Investigating Arson in Wapato

Posted: Updated:
WAPATO, WA. - The Yakima County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a fire that caused $85,000 worth of damages.

Firefighters responded around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday to the fire along at 1460 Progressive Road in Wapato. They found a metal sided shop fully engulfed in flames and starting to collapse. The fire had also spread to a nearby abandoned home and power lines were falling down. The fallen lines restricted firefighters from reaching one side of the home so they allowed the fire to burn itself out.

Neighbors told investigators they saw two people leaving the home prior to the fire. They drove off in a gray vehicle. Deputies are investigating this fire as an arson and ask anyone with information to call the Yakima County Sheriff's Office.

Both buildings were a total loss.
