KENNEWICK, WA - Almost a full year after a West Richland man was killed in a car accident on SR 224, the woman who was driving the other car is now on trial.

Steve Covert died last June. His passenger at the time of the crash was his teen son. Dylan Covert was the first to testify in Natalie Lincoln's jury trial on Wednesday.

"It was tough having to remember everything that happened," said Dylan Covert.

Prosecutors charged Lincoln with vehicular homicide in January. Lincoln's blood tests from the day of the crash show she had prescription drugs in her system and one of those drugs was a muscle relaxant. State Troopers say she crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and hit two cars the night of June 11th. One of those cars was the Covert's.

"Obviously, we hope that there is a verdict of guilty. Like we've said before, we're not out for revenge. Nothing is going to bring my husband back, their father back, but people should be held accountable," said Steve's widow, Cindy Covert.

Cindy and Steve would have celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary last week.

The trial for Lincoln's vehicular homicide charge is expected to last up to three weeks.
