Spring Weather Means More Motorcycles on the Road, but More Accidents as Well
KENNEWICK, WA - Spring weather means more motorcycle riders are pulling their bikes out of the garage. Unfortunately, more bikes on the road means more accidents.
The Insurance Information Institute found the number of fatal motorcycle accidents in the U.S. jumped 7.1 percent in 20012. Safety experts ask that drivers keep an eye out for motorcycles, but there are plenty of tips to help riders avoid collisions with cars as well.
JR Keller from Rattlesnake Mountain Harley Davidson in Kennewick said a good thing for riders to do is watch what drivers are physically doing, instead of just keeping an eye on their vehicle. "You can tell a lot if his head is down, if he's texting, or on the phone, or eating a sandwich. If he's driving and looking at you, he's probably not going to pull out and hit you," said Keller.
The Northwest Insurance Council says it's also a good idea for riders to have insurance in case an accident happens.
