MORAGA, Calif. – Freshman Brandon Bailey hurled his third complete-game of the season as the Gonzaga University baseball team swept Saint Mary’s College in Saturday’s doubleheader with a 4-1 nightcap victory at Louis Guisto Field.

GU took game one 6-3 and by sweeping the day the Zags claim its fifth West Coast Conference series. The Bulldogs have won six consecutive games and sit at 18-23 overall and 13-7 in league.

Bailey stifled the Gaels all afternoon. He allowed eight hits for one run on 125 pitches. Bailey struck out a career-high seven batters while walking just one. He is 4-2 with a 2.52 in his WCC starts.

Gonzaga’s offense struck in the sixth inning. Mitchell Gunsolus took a one out walk and advanced to third base on a Caleb Wood double down the left field line. Both scored a play later as Lamb hit a high chopper over the head of the SMC first baseman. Lamb stole third base and came home on a Jimmy Sinatro sacrifice fly.

Saint Mary’s pushed its lone run home in the bottom of the eighth inning. With a runner on second base, Collin Ferguson singled to left field for the RBI.

The Bulldogs however got the run back in the top of the ninth. Lamb doubled to open the frame and advanced to third base on a fielding error. Sinatro earned his second RBI of the game with a single to right field, which scored Lamb.

Lamb went 2-for-3 in the game with two runs scored and the two RBI. With hits in both games Saturday Lamb extends his hitting streak to 11 games, which ties the longest streak of his career.

Wood also had a pair of hits for his 19th multiple hit game of the year.

Cameron Neff was the losing pitcher of record. He worked eight inning allowing four runs on six hits. Until the sixth inning, Neff kept pace with Bailey by allowing just two hits.

The Zags have won seven straight over the Gaels.

GU will go for the series sweep Sunday. Andrew Sopko will get the start while Saint Mary’s counters with Anthony Gonsolin. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
