UPDATE/YAKIMA, WA - Yakima police have arrested a 41 year old man in connection with an arson on Summitview Avenue.

Police say nearby surveillance camera captured the man setting fire to the building on Friday, April 30th. Police were able to get enough information to identify and arrest the man.

The fire caused about $3,000 to the building. No one was hurt.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

Yakima Firefighters are investigating an arson at a radio station building on Summitview Avenue on Wednesday.

Firefighters said a man walked up to the back of the building, took something out of his mouth, lit it on fire and stuffed it under a cedar shingle.

Officials said the entire act is caught on tape from a surveillance camera at the bank next door.

Yakima Mayor Micah Cawley, who works for the radio station, was inside the building when the fire was started.

"Well it's very concerning," said Cawley. "Thank goodness there are people around that can take care of this quickly. This thing could have been a real bad disaster. So the fact that we were inside and someone tried to light it on fight, that's borderline attempted murder. That is really scary.

A radio station employee smelled the smoke from the fire and the building was immediately evacuated.

The damage is small and no one was hurt in the fire.
