YAKIMA, WA - NBC Right Now's Laura Murray sat behind jail bars Thursday but not to worry, it was all for a good cause. The 2014 MDA Lock-Up took place at Russillio's Pizza & Gelato.

Yakima firefighters picked up nearly 50 people Thursday and locked them up.

Participants sat inside Russillio's making phone calls to try to make bail.

The goal was to raise $30,000, and all of that money stays in Yakima for kids with muscular dystrophy. Organizers said every penny goes a long way.

"It's $800 to send a kid to summer camp for the week so all of that money does add up and goes directly to those people," said Leah Nathan.

All of the money raised will go directly to local services. It helps send kinds to summer camp in Idaho, see specialty doctors and get wheelchairs.
