Buena Man Arrested for Several Car Thefts, Robbery

YAKIMA COUNTY, WA - A 21-year-old Buena man is in jail, facing several charges for stealing multiple cars.

On Thursday just before 4:00P.M., a 61-year-old Yakima woman was heading home on State Route 22 near Toppenish, when she saw a 2004 Chevrolet Impala in a ditch on Branch Road.  When the woman stopped to see if she could help, a man in the ditch shoved her to the ground, stole her 2010 Toyota Prius and took off. The woman had only minor injuries from her fall.

When law enforcement got to the ditch, they determined that the Impala the man had left in the ditch had been reported stolen to the Yakama Nation Tribal Police from the 100 block of Progressive Road early Thursday morning. The Impala had also been involved in a burglary in the Buena area Thursday.

Around 7:40P.M. on Thursday, a Yakima County Sheriff's Deputy spotted the stolen Prius. The man in the Prius ran away, but he was caught a short time later. The Prius owner came to the scene and positively identified the suspect as the man who had stolen her car earlier.

The man was booked into the Yakima County Jail for robbery and multiple county of being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The man is under investigation for the burglary as well as a third stolen vehicle that was recovered in the same area just before the man was spotted in the Prius.

NBC Right Now looked at the Yakima County Jail roster on Friday. A man by the name of Josue Ivan Torres-Rubio had been booked into the jail on Thursday night for robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle.
