YAKIMA, WA - An abandoned and abused dog found a forever home on Friday.

NBC Right Now brought you the story of Sawyer, a little dog who was stuffed in a trash bag and thrown out a car window. He was malnourished, dehydrated, suffering from a urinary tract infection and had a broken femur.

Mark McAllister, a farmer in the Lower Valley, found Sawyer in a knotted double bag and took him in.

Wags to Riches Animal Rescue paid for Sawyer's surgery. Now, it's hard to believe that the friendly, tail wagging pup went through such abuse.

The couple adopting Sawyer came from Seattle. They said as soon as they heard about the dog's story and saw his picture, they immediately knew Sawyer was their dog.

"Just to imagine what he went through and thinking that if you have the chance to give him the life that he deserves, I think it's your obligation," said Chaz Hastings.

This is the couple's first dog together and said they can't wait to take the little guy home.

Sawyer found a happy ending. But sadly, local animal shelters said stories of neglected and abused dogs are heard often. Shelters are always looking for volunteers to help take care of the growing number of strays.
