YAKIMA, WA - A Cowiche woman is in custody after a child under her care was transported to Harborview Medical Center with a brain hemorrhage.

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office began investigating after emergency personnel last week responded to an incident along the 16000 block of Summitview Road. When they arrived they found a 17-month-old child with a decreased level of consciousness. Paramedics transported the child to a Yakima area hospital and he was then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.

The 29-year-old suspect had custody of the child and she told investigators she handled the child roughly because she was frustrated.. She is facing charges for child assault.

The child remains in critical but stable condition.
