City Council Workshop Will Discuss West Richland Animal Control Shelter

Posted: Updated:
WEST RICHLAND, WA - The West Richland City Council will hold a workshop about the proposed changes to the city's animal control facility Tuesday night.

The public is welcome to watch the meeting, but there will not be a time for public comment. The meeting starts at 6:00pm, right before the regular council meeting. It's at the City Council Chambers on Van Giesen.

Adopt Shelter Animal Pets, or "ASAP" a animal rescue organization in West Richland, works closely with animal control to find foster homes for stray cats or dogs, and provide them with medical care. West Richland Police currently run animal control.

ASAP President Kelly Merrick says the current shelter that holds stray pets needs improvements. The shelter is not accessible to the public, it's an unmanned facility, and it's not temperature controlled.

ASAP has been encouraging the city to make changes to its animal control facility and policy. Merrick says community members can show their support for changes by attending Tuesday night's meeting.
