YAKIMA, WA - Travelers in Yakima can now apply for expedited screening, which means their trip through airport security could be less of a hassle.

We got a play by play of exactly how you can qualify for TSA Pre-Check.

But first what is TSA Pre-Check? It's a risk-based program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, a light jacket, a belt and at times, they can keep laptops and gels stowed in their bags.

In order to enroll, you have to verify citizenship or immigration status with a passport or valid drivers license. You also have to provide fingerprints.

There is a non-refundable processing application fee of $85.

"It's important to remember that all passengers are still screened," said Lorie Dankers, a TSA Spokesperson. "It's just a matter of how they're screened is different. So people like it for the convenience. They like the recognition that they're low risk and at larger airports especially, they think it makes it go a lot quicker."

TSA Pre-Check is available at 118 airports across the nation, including in Spokane and Seattle.

Dankers said 220,000 people have enrolled in the program so far, and since the enrollment center opened in Yakima in late March, there's been 120 local folks who have signed up for precheck.
