KENNEWICK, WA - The Kennewick Fire Department is looking into what caused a fire Wednesday night at a home on the 2400 block of North Rhode Island Court.
Firefighters first got a call around 9:00P.M. Wednesday from a passerby who saw the smoke and flames.
Firefighters say the fire started on the deck area outside the home and quickly spread into the home and attic. At the time of the fire, the home was occupied by the two homeowners. The passerbys had warned the homeowners that their home was on fire.
Attempts to put out the fire with garden hoses by the homeowners before the fire department arrived failed. For firefighters to get the fire under control, it took 21 firefighters. Kennewick firefighters were assisted by firefighters from the Richland Fire Department and a support crew from Benton County Fire District #1. It took crews about an hour to put the flames out.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is underway and it is centered on the exterior deck area. Investigators are looking around the deck for any potential sources of ignition. The fire is not considered suspicious.
Preliminary fire damage estimates are at $100,000 for the home and it's contents. No one was injured in the fire.
