Franklin Co. Sheriff's Office Warns of Scam, Caller Accusing People of Not Reporting for Jury Duty

Posted: Updated:
FRANKLIN COUNTY, WA - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is warning the public of a scam involving a caller accusing the victim of not reporting for jury duty.

The sheriff's office said it has received several complaints Thursday of people being called and the caller says they are with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and they have failed to report for jury duty. The person is told they need to pay a fee right now or the would be arrested. The caller is calling from 509-221-0688. This is not a valid Franklin County Sheriff's Office phone number.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement agencies do not call people and advise them to pay or they will go to jail.

Several scams around the county have used similar tactics, either an outstanding ticket, failure to show for jury duty, a warrant has been issued, or a loved one is in jail and needs to be bailed out. If you get a call like any of these, do not send any money. Instead, hang up and report it to your local law enforcement agency.
