KENNEWICK, WA - A local high school art students goes from being homeless to being honored by the State Board of Education. A very special piece that created by Morgan Haberlack is now a permanent fixture at the State Capitol Building in Olympia.

Morgan's had a rough go of it these last few years. But you wouldn't know it from her presentation on Thursday. The well-spoken, lovely young lady was all grace in front of the board.

Morgan moved around a lot these last few years, even living at My Friend's place (the homeless shelter for teens in Kennewick) until just a few months ago. As much of an honor as this is for Morgan, she said it is kind of hard to let her ceramic "Rainbow Fish" go.

"I wanted to use what I've gone through. I wanted to use my experiences, all my trials and I wanted that to be a way I was able to tell people about Christ," said Haberlack.

"Rainbow Fish" earned top honors at the Superintendent's Art Show this year. Before that, the piece was chosen from thousands at the regional art show. Morgan is now invited to Olympia in a few weeks.
