Former Gonzaga Prep and University of Washington running back Bishop Sankey became the first player at his position to be selected in the 2014 NFL Draft when he was taken in the 2nd round (54th overall) by the Tennessee Titans.

"It just feels awesome," Sankey said in a teleconference after being drafted. "I got a great feel when I went down (to Tennessee) on my visit. All the coaches there were great. It was a place that I definitely wanted to be. It really is a true blessing just to be the first running back taken off the board. I'm just ready to get to work. I'm just ready to get there and get to work."

Sankey is a Greater Spokane League and Husky football single-season and career record holder in yards rushing. The 5-foot-10 205 pound ball carrier was named a 2013 Second-Team All-American and First-Team All-Pac-12 selection.

Sankey ran for back-to-back 1,400-plus yard and 15-plus TD seasons for the Huskies, putting up 1,870 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns last season.

The Titans recently released Pro-Bowl RB Chris Johnson and only have Shonn Greene, Jackie Battle and Leon Washington at the runnning back position heading into the 2014 season. With Washington primarily handling returns and Battle a career backup, Greene is the only RB on the Titans roster that has been an NFL starter during his career and was a backup to Johnson last season.

"I think I'm an all-around back," Sankey said. "I've proven that I can move the ball on the ground, catch it through the air, and help in pass protection. I'm a guy that likes to use his eyes when I'm running. I feel like I'm patient enough to press the line of scrimmage and make the correct read and cut. I think that does work to my advantage as far as being a running back and running down the field and making guys miss in that second level."

One advantage Sankey will have as a rookie is one of the best offensive line's in the NFL-- former Eastern Washington tackle and All-Pro Michael Roos is one of the Titans stalwarts--and Tennessee added Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan with the 11th overall pick on Thursday, May 8.

"I know the line there is awesome and I can't wait," Sankey said about Tennessee's front five. "I can't wait to get there and get used to running behind those guys and get the feel for everything, get the run timing down. Again, really excited right now."
