KHQ Obtains Several Hundred Pages Of Investigative Documents In The Murder Of WWII Veteran Delbert Belton

SPOKANE, Wash. -

Shortly after the murder of 88-year-old Delbert Belton, KHQ requested the investigative documents through the public records law. One of the teenage suspect's Kenan Adams-Kinard, claims that Belton was a drug dealer and that he and Demetrius Glenn met Belton for a drug deal the night he was murdered.

Police have maintained that this was a random beating and murder.

After KHQ put in the request for the documents attorneys for Adams-Kinard and Glenn argued their release would hinder a fair trial. After the court agreed, a Spokane judge allowed attorneys time to look over the documents that would be released to the public. During that time attorneys were allowed to make objections to releasing certain parts of the case file.

After reviewing some of the 911 tapes and case documents, KHQ learned that several people called 911 a day after Belton's murder. Many people reported chatter on social media and local news sites of who the suspects may be. Another man called 911 to report he almost hit two black men with his car running across Division. Police have said Adams-Kinard and Glen ran from the crime scene after beating Belton to death.

Belton's death gained national attention as the sensational details of his murder spread.

KHQ found that Crime Stoppers received a tip from a person in Canada, and Texas from a woman to report she saw them on a flight in Arizona. Both Adams-Kinard and Glenn were arrested in Spokane several days after Belton's murder. Police say there is no indication they left the area.

Deputies were extremely disturbed when they found a deceased horse on the property. One of the horse’s front ankles was tied to the fence with a short rope and another rope was cinched around its neck.
