Pasco Officer on Paid Leave is Hired by a Local Non-Profit

Posted: Updated:
PASCO, WA - A Pasco Police officer still on the payroll is hired by a local non-profit. The Police Department put Zach Fairley on paid administrative leave back on January 6th.

NBC Right Now received an internal email from the Red Cross on April 10th in a sealed envelope on Friday. The email says Fairley was hired and staring a job as a collection manager responsible for Yakima, Richland, Bend and Klamath Falls. The body of the email sings Fairley's praises, saying "he was a member of the Pasco Washington Police Department and was the youngest person ever promoted to sergeant in that department. Zach was a member of the Tri-City SWAT Team.... and one of the individuals responsible for developing training programs for department personnel."

Fairley is in the middle of a legal battle with a court date scheduled for late June. He is accused of lying to officers after his cell phone was used to text back and forth with the same number that called in a bomb threat to Columbia Basin College last summer.

When NBC Right Now got in touch with the Red Cross on Friday about hiring Fairley, they released this statement: "The American Red Cross Pacific Northwest Blood Services Region is conducting an internal investigation regarding a staff member's empemploymentppropriate action may be taken once this review is complete."
