PASCO, WA - Veterans face several challenges when they get out of the military, whether that's finding a job or getting the health care they need.

However, most of the help out there for veterans is often geared towards men. That's what one group of veterans at Columbia Basin College is hoping to change.

On Friday, CBC hosted the Tri-Cities' first Female Veteran Symposium. One of the organizers told NBC Right Now that military sexual trauma affects about 80 percent of women service members, but it's over-shadowed by PTSD and TBI.

Desiree Azzarello wants to make it clear to the thousands of female veterans in our area that there is support for them out there.

"A lot of females don't want to do disability claims because they're not comfortable coming forward with MST or PTSD or whatever their health concerns were because they feel maybe that they don't deserve it or however they may feel," Azzarello expressed.

Azzarello is working on putting together a 5K fundraiser for female veterans.
