Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, WA-- Around 1,000 people came out Saturday to support the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Run for Ribbons race at Howard Amon Park.
The run-.walk race works to promote awareness about about cancer.

All the money raised goes toward local cancer patients and their families.

We spoke with one woman who was participating in honor of her aunt who died of ovarian cancer.

"I love her and miss her every day. So it's great to honor her and just feels like she's kind of here," said Samantha Shanahan, lost aunt to ovarian cancer.

Participants each get a t-shirt to decorate and color the ribbon for the type of cancer they're bringing awareness to.

Organizers say around $55,000 was raised at this year's race.
