RICHLAND, WA - Saturday at Kadlec Regional Medical Center, the parking lot was transformed into a fair.
It was plenty of fun for kids, but each game and activity also had a lesson behind it. One big lesson each kid took away was to wear a helmet. The Seattle Children's Hospital tent actually had the longest line at the Kid’s Safety Fair. As kids of all ages were fitted with free helmets they were also taught why it is important to wear a helmet that fits in order to prevent any injury.
"We have found that there's 85% reduction in risk when you wear a helmet for head injuries. It's just really important for us to pretty much put helmets on every kid that we can," said Carly Walsh from Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Most families walk away from the annual fair with tote bags filled with safety goodies. Seattle Children's Hospital has been offering the helmets along with a grant from Kohls stores for years now.
