Former Zag Goodson Drafted by Packers

A career in basketball wasn’t in the cards for former Gonzaga Bulldog Demetri Goodson, but on Saturday Goodson took a big step in his pro football career. The Green Bay Packers selected Goodson with their sixth-round pick, coming in at 197th overall.

Goodson played three seasons at Gonzaga before transferring to Baylor in 2011 to focus on football. It took him a while to play a full season in Waco, Texas. An ankle injury shortened his 2011 season and an arm injury shortened his 2012 season. He played just four games for the Bears in each of his first two seasons.

2013 was a different story though as Demetri started 10 of 11 games for Baylor. It wasn’t completely without injury though, as Goodson missed two games due to an arm injury.

In the NFL combine, the cornerback put up impressive numbers as he clocked 40 time of 4.45 seconds and had a 37-inch vertical. Those 'measurables' caught the attention of the Green Bay Packers as the team looks to boost its secondary.

Goodson won’t be the only one in his family to play in the NFL. His brother Mike was drafted in 2009 and is a running back for the New York Jets.
