Devastating Fire Destroys Yakima Tennis Club

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA. -- It's a Mother's Day surprise no one wants to see. These cell phone videos capture the devastating flames as they completely engulf the Yakima Tennis Club.

"The flames and fire were above this first tree," Dave Biddle said. "I mean that's how bad it was."

Dave Biddle lives just down the street. He caught these pictures of the tremendous fire. And just moments later, it was gone.

"When we first came over, you still see part of the building but in minutes it was a shell," Dave said.
Smoldering embers flew hundreds of yards away from the fire endangering some nearby bushes and homes. Firefighters were able to contain the fire and most of tennis courts are in tact.
The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire and has no leads thus far. Last night the tennis club hosted a wedding but it's unclear if there's any connection. Still, the beginning of summer is a tough time for members to lose their beloved club.
"I just wouldn't even recognize it," Danielle Polage, club member said. "I mean everything is gone. I expected damage. I didn't expect the entire building to be gone."

For Dave, he just had to watch as the fire ruined a neighborhood icon.
"It was just devastating." Dave said. "We could feel the heat from hundreds of feet away. I mean it's just one of those moments where you go, wow."

The one thing everyone is happy about is that this huge fire didn't hurt anyone or spread to the nearby homes.
