Davenport Man Faces First Degree Child Rape, Molestation & Incest Charges

Posted: Updated:

Daniel Ray Abell, a 54-year-old bus driver for the Davenport School District made his first appearance in court Tuesday and was charged with First Degree Child Rape, First Degree Child Molestation and First Degree Incest. Right now, Abell is being held in the Lincoln County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

Abell's arraignment will be in about 2 weeks.

Court documents, say this all started because someone called the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office saying they believed Daniel Abell was suicidal. When a deputy arrived at his home, court documents say Daniel said, "Well, I can see my wife called you and why she would be worried."

It was during that conversation with the deputy that Abell started asking what he would need to take with him to jail and said quote, "I need to turn myself in," and explained it was for having inappropriate sexual relations with two people he is related to. Court documents say the sexual abuse has been going on for nearly 20 years.

The Davenport School District Superintendent says they are in the process of placing Abell on administrative leave. In the two years he has worked for the district they say there have not been any issues with him.

In court, Abell told the judge he was only a danger to himself, insinuating that he is suicidal.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says the charges have nothing to do with his job and that no students are involved. However, if you know something they do not, you are asked to call them at 509-725-3501.
