YAKIMA, WA - We now know the cause of death for a Selah teen that went missing more than two weeks ago and was believed to have slid into the Roza Canal.
The Yakima County Coroner said 18-year-old Chance Shrewsberry died from asphyxia as a result of drowning in fresh water. The coroner said the investigation is ongoing, and it's still unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved.
Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies said they believe Shrewsberry slid into the canal more than two weeks ago after finding clothing scattered nearby.
Deputies have been searching along the canal on quads and in vehicles looking for any sign of the boy's body. They caught a break Thursday night when a jogger spotted the body in the water along Beaudry road in Moxee.
We reached out to friends and family, and they said the loss of Chance is still too new and painful to share any memories with us right now.
