Lit Cigarette Caused Small Brush Fire in Randall Park

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA. -- Fire started by accident in Yakima's Randall Park threatened some homes Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters were called there around 3 o'clock after someone threw a lit cigarette away. According to one witness, the flames started by that were well over 20-feet tall.

"We saw a big pillar of smoke and there just big flames, huge flames," James Copeland said. "Someone had already called the fire department and there were a bunch of people in our driveway. Yeah it was exciting, scary, pretty much everything."

At least three teens were detained in connection to lighting off a firework in the park around that same time, but it was determined that the firework did not cause the fire and they were released.

However, one teenager was given a ticket for lighting off the illegal firework.
