JUST ASK SHANE: New Building on Columbia Center Blvd.

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - A lot of you are curious about what's going on with the tall building that's under construction along Columbia Center Boulevard in Kennewick.  In fact, Shelley and Anita both sent me emails with the same question: "What's happening with the tall building next to Fire Artisan Pizza on Columbia Center Boulevard?  What will it be?"

We found out that Gary Long, Jr. owns that property, along with the Fire Artisan Pizza building next door.  We talked with Long's attorney, who says they're currently in lease negotiations with potential tenants, but he wouldn't tell us more than that because of confidentiality agreements.

He did say if the building is filled by just one tenant, it would likely be an office building.  But he says there's a possibility we could see office space on the lower floor, and a restaurant on the upper floor.  Either way, he says the tenant needs to mesh with the developer's vision for the property.

"The views from the top of the building are amazing.  You can see out to Hanford, you can see the river, it's just spectacular.  So, the right fit is very important, perhaps more important than the best offer," said Nick Kovarik, Long's attorney.

Kovarik says Long has actually turned down several potential tenants because they weren't the right fit.  They hope to wrap up the lease negotiations in the next month or two, and we will check back with Kovarik to get an update later this summer.

Remember, if you've got a question about something going on in our community... send it my way.  You can reach me in the newsroom at (509) 737-6738, or send me an email at JustAskShane@nbcrightnow.com
