NEW YORK  – Former Gonzaga University All-American and current Boston Celtic Kelly Olynyk has been named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team, the league announced Thursday.

Olynyk, who helped lead the Bulldogs to a 32-3 record a year ago, averaged 8.7 ppg and 5.2 rpg per game for Boston. The native of Kamloops, British Columbia, broke out late in the season, scoring 24 points or more in each of the last three games. Tim Hardaway of the New York Knicks was the fifth member of the first team with 204 points.

He was the 13th overall pick in last June’s NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks, who immediately traded him to Boston.

Olynyk is the second Bulldog to earn NBA All-Rookie accolades, Adam Morrison also a second-team pick in 2007 with the Charlotte Bobcats.

The voting panel consisted of 125 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada who were asked to select five players for the first team and five players for the second team, regardless of position.
