Shock Shake Up Roster with Trade, 8 Transactions

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Reeling from a third straight loss on May 23rd, the Spokane Shock made a series of transactions on Wednesday in advance of a pivotal divisional contest against Portland on Friday.  The team announced the acquisition of defensive back Fred Shaw from the Philadelphia Soul, in exchange for offensive lineman Duke Robinson.  Future considerations were also involved in the transaction, which was precipitated by the reassignment of star defensive back Paul Stephens to the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.

This is Shaw's fifth year in the AFL, after breaking into the league with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz in 2010.  He has 26 interceptions in his AFL career, including an eight-interception season with the San Antonio Talons in 2012.

The team has also signed wide receiver Nick Truesdell, a newcomer to the AFL after participating in Green Bay Packers minicamp.  He also spent time with the Colorado Ice and the Bemidji Axemen of the IFL.  Quarterback Jarrett Brown rejoins Spokane after being placed on reassignment on May 20th, adding some much-needed depth under center for the Shock.

One other notable move for the Shock was the decision to place Brandon Thompkins on recallable reassignment.  The wide receiver had three dropped passes in the first half of Friday's loss to San Jose.

Other roster moves for the Shock on Wednesday:

Offensive lineman Mark Jackson activated from injured reserve
Wide receiver Andrew Joseph place on inactive reserve
Defensive back JT Fitzgerald placed on inactive reserve
Offensive lineman Sam Tupua placed on inactive reserve

The Shock host the rival Portland Thunder at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena on Friday at 7 pm.  The game can be seen live on SWX-TV (over-the-air 6-2, cable channel 306, and on the "Watch SWX" app for iOS and Android).
