TOPPENISH, WA - Mobile applications seem to be the way of the future. Some middle school kids in Toppenish have already mastered the skill of developing them.

The application is called "We Vote" and 5 students from Toppenish spent 3 hours a day, 4 days a week, after school, for months, to create the application.

And the hard work paid off. The app allows large groups of people, say like an entire classroom or even a whole school, to vote on any topic. It then organizes the information in a pie chart automatically. This app made them a winner in the Washington State Youth App Challenge.

The kids said they were thrilled to win the contest.

"You wouldn't think that like 1 seventh grader and 4 middle schoolers would ever win a prize like that for making an app. So it was really exciting." one student said.

"And like we worked super hard on it you know?" said another.

And what did they get for winning? Brand new Google tablets! Pretty good deal. They weren't the only local winners. Out of 50 schools that applied, Granger Middle School and Ochoa Middle School in Pasco also took home prizes. Congratulations to all the young winners!
