Pendleton Hospital Amber Alert Just a Drill; Police Not Told
PENDLETON, OR - The new hospital in Pendleton went on Amber Alert this week but no one told police it was just a drill.
Police got a call from St. Anthony Hospital Tuesday, telling them a baby had been snatched. Four officers tore off toward the hospital but as they got closer, they found out it was only a drill.
Chief Stuart Roberts says such a "code" response carries public safety risks.
St. Anthony moved into the $70 million facility in December. Spokesman Larry Blanc said administrators decided the staff had gotten familiar with the building, so it was time for emergency exercises. However, he says whoever made the call to dispatchers forgot to say "This is a drill."
