YAKIMA COUNTY, WA - An overnight fire near Grandview on Sunday could cost the owners of a farm equipment shop over one million dollars.

The fire happened along the 3200 block of the Old Inland Empire Highway. The Gaston’s, who rent from the owners of the building live just feet away from the shop. They say the popping sounds of flames woke them around 11:30 pm Sunday night.

Equipment used for the family grape orchards that were stored inside was destroyed. That damage totals out to over one million dollars in value. Where the building is located was difficult to reach for fire crews. The Gaston’s explained that dispatch had to call for directions and clarification because it is a Prosser address even though the property is located in Yakima County. 70% of the structure was already in flames when crews arrived.

"This is my very first experience. I would never want to go through something like that again. It was very scary. Whenever you wake up like that is very scary,” said Tanya Gaston who lives on the property.

The owners are expected to have a great crop this season but their biggest problem is now going to be working out on the farm without much of their equipment. The fire did start inside the building at the back of the shop, but it is not yet known what actually caused it to spark.
