KENNEWICK, WA - A prank caller in Kennewick has been in and out of jail lately accused of making at least 26 fake emergency calls to dispatchers starting in December.

Throughout the calls you can tell dispatchers started catching on, police say officers had to be sent out every time.

Dispatch: "911 where's your emergency?" Caller: "2105 N. Steptoe trailer 28 there's a girl running around with a knife."

Dispatch: "911 where's your emergency?"  Caller: "There's a fight at 2105 N. Steptoe at the front."

Dispatch: "911 where's your emergency?" Caller: "2105  N. Steptoe,  there's a girl running around with a gun."

Dispatch: "911 where's your emergency?"  Caller: "Trailer 28 2105 North Steptoe, there's a girl trying to stab me."

The caller, Curtis Simmons Torres made at least 26 calls over a period of about four months.

James Barber, SECOMM Manager said even if dispatchers think it is a prank call they have to take it seriously.

"We have to treat every 911 call as if it's the real thing, we don't know any different we can't discount a call because we think it might not be real," said Barber.

But this takes a toll on emergency resources.

"It ties up assets, it ties up phone lines, it ties up emergency responders it could have, it could, I quote, that it could have catastrophic effects," Barber said.

"When you call and make a prank call you're saying there's some sort of police emergency and we're now redirecting our resources depending on the nature of the emergency to that, that's very serious and when we find you and we will you will be prosecuted to the furthest extent," said Sergeant Ken Lattin, Kennewick Police Department.

Torres is listed as an inmate right now on the Benton County Jail roster, apparently for unpaid fines and a warrant out of Franklin County. He was also previously charged with several counts of wrongful use of a telephone.

KENNEWICK: Residents in one Kennewick neighborhood are fed up by people speeding through their streets, so they've taken matters into their own hands. A lot of people use 7th Avenue and Huntington Place in Kennewick as a through street to access US 395. Many residents say when drivers are  going 60 MPH on their 25 MPH street, that they can't even let their children or animals play outside near the street.
