Firefighters Investigating Gas Leak at Lourdes in Pasco

UPDATE /PASCO, WA - Most patients are back in their beds at Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco after a gas leak Tuesday night. 

As of Wednesday morning, diesel generators were keeping the power on at the hospital. 

Firefighters evacuated Lourdes around 7:30 Tuesday night after workers learned of a gas leak coming from a line in the boiler room. Patients were allowed back in around midnight.

Franklin County Emergency Management Coordinator Chris Lee says ambulances from Benton, Franklin, and Walla Walla Counties responded as a precaution. Paramedics took three patients to other hospitals during the evacuation.

Emergency management crews are staying on scene to ensure the building is completely safe until workers can repair the gas line.

Around 7:30P.M. Tuesday, firefighters got a report of a gas leak in the boiler room at Lourdes Medical Center.

Police blocked off 5th Avenue from Sylvester Street to Nixon street, while fire departments from Benton, Franklin and Walla Walla counties responded.

When NBC Right Now arrived to the hospital, our reporter saw workers and patients being evacuated.

"They are evaluating and addressing all of the medical needs dependent upon who's in the facility, what is needed, and they will address those needs as they evaluate and gather that information," Franklin County Emergency Management Planner Chris Lee explained.

Crews checked out several floors at the hospital and gave the all clear to go back in.

We're told that three patients were taken to other hospitals in the area. The other patients are still at Lourdes Medical Center.

Crews will stay at the hospital to monitor the situation.

So far, there are no reports of injuries caused by the gas leak.
