TROUTDALE, OR - Troutdale police say the name of Tuesday's lone gunman at an Oregon School was Jared Michael Padgett.
Padgett, 15, was a freshman at Reynolds High School in Troutdale. He rode to campus on a school bus that morning carrying a guitar case and a duffle bag. Padgett first opened fire in the boy's locker room, shooting and killing 14-year-old Emilio Hoffman. A bullet also grazed the hip of physical education teacher Todd Rispler.
Rispler made his way to the front office and alerted authorities. He was later treated at the scene.
Padgett continued down a main hallway when police officers started heading toward him. Gunfire was exchanged and Padgett went into a bathroom. A robot with a camera later found Padgett dead, slumped over a toilet. The state medical examiner's office says autopsy results confirm Padgett died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Padgett used an AR15 type rifle during the attack but was also carrying a handgun. Officers say he got the weapons from his home. He was also wearing a non-ballistic vest and a multisport helmet with a camouflage design.
