BURBANK, WA - A Walla Walla County Sheriff's Deputy will be permanently memorialized in Burbank.

In 2007 Michael Estes was killed in the line of duty in a traffic collision at the intersection of Highways 12 and 124. At that same site an overpass has been created to ease the flow of traffic in the area and to keep the highway safer. Estes' family was there Wednesday as the new sign was revealed naming the overpass in honor of their loved one.

"He always put service above himself and he was quite the deputy. I think that the sacrifice and the honor is just a fitting tribute," explained Walla Walla County Sheriff John Turner.

After the incident a large push came to make the area safer for drivers. The Department of Transportation reported today that since the creation of the overpass the number of accidents in the area has dropped.
