Lynch Seeking Larger Contract, Will Not Report

Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Seattle Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch will not be reporting to mandatory minicamp next week according to sources close to the situation. Yahoo also notes that Lynch has not been present at any of the team's voluntary organized team activities, nor did he go with the team to the White House visit in May.

Lynch has missed team OTAs before, but this would be the first time he will have failed to attend a mandatory minicamp since joining the NFL in 2007 as the Buffalo Bills 12th overall pick. According to the rules of the NFL's recent Collective Bargaining Agreement, if Lynch misses all three days he will be subjected to a $69,455 fine.

The reason for Lynch's absence is believed to be due to his unhappiness with his current contract. Lynch is scheduled to make a base salary of $5-million in the third season of a four-year contract he signed with the Seahawks in 2012. Lynch has ran for over 1,000 yards over the past three seasons and finished with a career high 14 touchdowns last season in Seattle's Super Bowl run.

As an integral cog in the Seahawks' machine, Lynch missing a mandatory activity will make many Seattle fans nervous, but the real cause for fear will come if he misses any of this season's upcoming training camp or decides to hold out for a bigger contract.
