KENNEWICK, WA - Twenty years ago a facility opened in the Tri-Cities that changed health care in the region forever. On Thursday, The Tri-Cities Cancer celebrated the milestone with a community open house.

The Tri-Cities Cancer Center first opened in 1994 as a partnership between the three local hospitals: Kadlec Regional Medical Center, Lourdes Health Systems and KGH, which is now called Trios Health.

"The first of its kind. Something where the three came together and realized how important it was to create a world class center that we could, as a residents of this region, really be proud of and receive the best care and treatment," said CEO Chuck DeGooyer.

Some local dignitaries and dozens of citizens stopped by the celebration. All four cities in the region named Thursday Tri-Cities Cancer Day.

A patient, Terry Gallagher, rang the Fighter Bell as part of the celebration. He was celebrating the final treatment of his cancer.
