Summer Driving Safety

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA-- Summer activities are grabbing people's attention and taking their mind off the road when they're behind the wheel.
Washington State Patrol wants drivers to know they need to be extra alert on the road in the summer months.

Troopers say there are more cars and the road and more drivers are distracted. And summer parties include people drinking alcohol so watch out for drunk drivers.

"People are preoccupied. They're not worried about driving. So what they're worried about is where they're going to go or the next event they're going to do, traveling out of town. So they're talking on their cell phone or they're drinking and driving," said Trooper David Brandt, Washington State Patrol.
Trooper Brandt encourages drivers to be extra alert and scan the roads for distracted or drunk drivers.
