Artists Take to Sidewalks in Richland for Chalk Art Festival

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, WA - Amateur and professional artists alike took to the sidewalks Saturday for the 15th Annual Chalk Art Festival.

Nearly 200 artists, ranging from toddlers to senior citizens, filled the Uptown shopping Mall in Richland. The event is put on every year by the City of Richland and businesses in Uptown.

Participants were divided into three groups based on their age. Organizers provided the chalk, and the rest was left up to the artists imaginations.

"It's like a cool way for the community to get together and make the Uptown and the sidewalk beautiful and I love it," said 14-year-old Izzy Boatright.

Ellen Kramer, a character artist added, "I feel accomplished at the end and I don't really feel any remorse once it's washed away because I did it--I got the experience."

Unfortunately the artwork was washed away at the end of the event. However, photos of the winners of each age group are on display at nine different businesses in Uptown. Just look for the balloons.
