KENNEWICK, WA - A Kennewick woman is recovering from severe injuries to her arm and leg after she was bit by a pit bull Sunday morning.

Kennewick Police say it happened at a house on the 8600 block of W. Yellowstone Street.When medics arrived Judy Phillips was lying on the driveway going in and out of consciousness as a result of her injuries and the pit bull was inside the home.

Another woman and a young child were also inside the home locked up in a bedroom, officers helped them out through the window.

Phillips is being treating at Kadlec Medical Center.

"Make sure that if you do have an animal that like to get out, have your yard fenced or a means of keeping them on your own property. if it has been deemed as being potentially dangerous, get your permit," explained officer Keith Noble from the Kennewick Police Department. 

Benton County Animal Control as well as Kennewick Police found the pit bull in a back bedroom and were able to safely get it out of the house without anyone else getting injured. 

The owner is charged with harboring a dangerous animal. The pit bull is at animal control under quarantine.
