2014 HAPO Columbia Cup and Air Show Artwork Unveiled

NBCRightNow.com - For the tenth year running, the Tri-City Water Follies is partnering with Lockheed Martin to produce the official artwork for the HAPO Columbia Cup and Air Show.
This year's artwork depicts a modern turbine hydroplane with a retro paint job and the number "U-49", signifying the 49th running of the race. The airplane in the piece is, coincidentally, a Lockheed T-33, which will be appearing at the races, which will be held July 25-27 on the Columbia River.
Fitzgerald, who is a designer for Lockheed Martin, said he is also a hydroplane fan. “I’ve done the artwork eight out of the ten years Lockheed Martin has done the artwork, and it’s one my favorite things to work on,” he said.
Kathy Powell, Event Director for the Water Follies said she looks forward to the unveiling of the artwork every year.
“Lockheed Martin always does such a beautiful job with it,” she said. “Ours is always the best looking of all the races on the unlimited hydroplane circuit.” Powell also noted how much the artwork helps sell programs, t-shirts and other Water Follies-branded merchandise. “People see that artwork and they want it.”
Powell also said anyone wanting to see each of the Lockheed Martin designs can stop by the Water Follies offices. “We have each year framed on our walls and we are very proud to do so,” she said.
