JUST ASK SHANE: Update on Richland Post Office Move
RICHLAND, WA - One of our viewers wants to get an update on the Richland post office and its upcoming move. Suzie asks, "When is the Richland post office moving to its new location? And after it moves, will the blue mail boxes on Knight Street still be available?"
We talked with the U.S. Postal Service, and they tell us the move out of the Federal Building should happen in late July or early August. Crews are working right now to remodel about 4,100 square feet of space in the old Atrium Building on Cullum Avenue. It's about a quarter-mile from the post office's current location on Jadwin Avenue, and the U.S. Postal Service says they worked with the city to find a spot that's convenient for customers.
"We met with the Richland city officials a while ago and enlisted their support, and asked them to keep us apprised of any location that they thought might be suitable. We've worked with the local officials, kept them informed, and we feel this will be a good location, said Ernie Swanson, a USPS spokesperson.
As for the blue mail boxes on Knight Street, Swanson says there's been no decision on whether those will be moved. He says it will depend on how much mail volume they see, after the post office moves to its new location on Cullum Avenue.
