YAKIMA, WA - A brush fire northwest of Yakima is now 100% contained.

The fire sparked a little before 4 p.m. on Thursday near the intersection of Rocky Top Rd. and Summitview Rd. It scorched ten acres before firefighters were able to put it completely out. The cause is under investigation but firefighters are calling it suspicious.

West Valley firefighters responded immediately and then called for units from Highland and Naches. In total 32 firefighters and 11 units helped put out the fire. The Department of Natural Resources was also on scene.

However, it put neighbors on edge.

"Saw a plume of smoke about 60 to 80 feet in the air, and it was so full of black smoke I thought it was a home. And as soon as I got over the hill, I saw the flames coming off the side of the hill," Edward Becker described to NBC Right Now.

Two homes were threatened but firefighters were able to protect them. Nearby roads were shut down for about an hour so firetrucks could make their way to the blaze.

Firefighters plan to remain at the location all night to keep a close eye on hot spots.
