YAKIMA, WA - Target shooting is now banned in the Wenas Wildlife Area, which covers 178 square miles between Ellensburg and Selah.

The state Fish and Wildlife Department on Friday made the decision after a wildfire started this week at an unofficial shooting range. It burned about 15 square miles of grass and brush.

This is the third fire this season sparked by target shooting in the area. A fourth fire was started by illegal fireworks.

The ban will be in effect until October 1st.
