PASCO, WA - By now, most of you probably know what CrossFit is. It is a strength and conditioning program that has exploded in popularity over the last few years. In 2005, there were just 13 CrossFit gyms in the nation. Today, there are more than 7,000.

Locally, we have a CrossFit superstar among us. His name is Ken Idler and he's going back to the World Reebok CrossFit Games next month for the second year in a row. The 51-year-old dominated down in Carson, California last summer and this year he is off to an even better starts.

This is how it works: the CrossFit Open happened in the first part of the year and anyone can compete in that. Then, the top 200 (out of some 3,000 athletes in Idler's age group) go on to do four additional workouts in four days. From there, just the top 20 make it to the Games. Idler sits at number 10 going in and his goal this year is the same as last year.

"Just to do what I can do and know I did the best I can do. You're not really competing with anybody but yourself so if I do that it'll probably work out okay," said Idler.

Idler said he was surprised to have done better this time around. He had a busy year, opening his own gym, CrossFit Unrestrained in Pasco. He didn't have a place to work out for a whole month and a half. Now, he thinks he's ready.

The Games for the Masters 50-54 age range runs from July 22nd to 24th.
