Late Rally Sparks Spokane to 3-2 Win Over Hawks

SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Spokane Indians completed a two-run eighth inning rally to come from behind and defeat the Boise Hawks 3-2 in Northwest League action at Avista Stadium in on Saturday, June 21.

The Indians (7-1) got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning thanks to Eduard Pinto's lead off single. Seth Spivey moved Pinto over to second on a grounder to first and after Zach Cone struck out, Luke Tendler hit a sharp single to left center to plate Pinto. 

Boise (4-5) would respond in the top of the third when Varonex Cuevas led off with a solo home run to the Pepsi Porch at Avista. 

The Hawks would take the lead a couple of innings later when Spokane starter Reed Garrett got into trouble in the fifth. Garrett hit Charlie White, walked Cuevas and then balked to put runners on second and third. Rashad Crawford grounded out to second, but White came in to take the 2-1 lead. Boise would load the bases in the inning but Jason Hoppe got Marra to ground into a 4-6-3 inning-ending double play to stop the bleeding for Spokane. 

The Hawks carried the lead into the bottom of the eighth, but then the Indians bats woke up again. Spivey got things started with a rocket double down the right field line, and an out later Luke Tendler drove him home on a single through the middle to tie it up at 2-2. Alberto Triunfel hit a line-drive to left center, moving Tendler to third and taking second when Crawford miss played the ball. Enter Juremi Profar, the Curacao native hit a towering fly ball to deep center to score Tendler and give the Indians the 3-2 lead. 

Adam Parks--who had come in and pitched a scoreless top of the eighth--finished the game for the Indians to earn his first win with the Indians.

Tendler finished 3-4 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored to lead Spokane, the outfielder is now hitting .417 on the season with 12 RBI. 

Spokane and Boise return to action tomorrow night at Avista Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
