Gleason Inspires at Golf Tournament

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho -- Steve Gleason continues to inspire, even as his battle with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) gets tougher.  The Gonzaga Prep and Washington State graduate delivered a video message, thanking those who helped "Team Gleason" at the Gleason Classic Golf Tournament at Black Rock on Monday.

Among those attending the golf tournament and dinner were several of Gleason's former classmates at Gonzaga Prep, as well as former Spokane Chiefs Michael Grabner (NHL's New York Islanders) and Jared Cowen (NHL's Ottawa Senators).

"When I first met him, I could see that he's a warrior," said Grabner.  "He doesn't give up.  A lot of people would maybe quit and ask themselves, 'Why did this happen to me?'  But not Steve.  He's a guy who just keeps going and moving forward, trying to help other people.

The event helped raise money for the Gleason Initiative Foundation, Catholic Charities, and funds two scholarships in Steve's name at Gonzaga Prep and WSU.
