Kennewick Police Warn About Computer Fraud in Area

KENNEWICK, WA. - The Kennewick Police Department wants to warn residents about computer fraud in the area.

Officers say they've received several reports of callers stating they are with Verizon and that the victim's personal computer has been hacked. The caller then officers to assist the victim in cleaning up the problem. During the phone call the scammer obtains information from the resident which then allows them access to the victim's personal computer.

The caller also demands cash be sent to them best Western Union, outside the United States. They threaten not doing so will result in damage to their computer since they have already provided them access.

Officers want to remind victims computer security is essential and it's important to not allow anyone access to your computer unless you have initiated contact with a computer technician.
