Hulett to Set Indians Games Managed Record

SPOKANE, Wash. -- In a sport where players and managers move around like chess pieces, the Spokane Indians have been fortunate to have one of the rare men in baseball that has staying power. Tonight, June 25, Indians manager Tim Hulett will break Harry Ostdiek's record for most games managed with number 543.

Hulett already broke a record this season by coming back for his eighth consecutive year with the word Spokane splashed across his chest in red, and once the first pitch is thrown out by Derek Thompson on the mound at Avista at 6:30 p.m. PDT, his name will be etched atop another list.

Ironically, it's Ostdiek's 1911 Spokane team that holds the best-start in Indians history by beginning the season 13-1. Another record Hulett's team might break in just a few days with Spokane sitting in first place in the Northwest League at 10-1, and still undefeated in 9-inning contests. Only fitting for a manager who has put in the hard work with a Short Season "A" level club and has stuck around despite offers to move up the ladder.

The former infielder led Spokane to the NWL title in 2008 and another title appearance in 2010.

Hulett is also a five-time Louisiana State Champion as the head coach at Evangel High School, leading the Eagles to the school's first back-to-back titles this past season even after jumping up a classification.
